Say YES to Sustainable Sex!
Sustainable sex? What?!
No! We’re not talking about sustaining sex for longer, that’s entirely your business! What we want to talk about is making sex more ecologically sustainable. The importance of going green in the bedroom might not seem an obvious consideration, but there’s no doubt that the sex industry has a measurable negative impact on the environment. According to a recent article in Glamour Magazine, condoms, lube, toys, the pill all contribute to 222.9 million tonnes of waste in the UK. Sustainable living has become more than just a trend, it’s a lifestyle choice and a necessary one. Most of us are beginning to find ways to cut our carbon footprint, recycle, make dietary concessions and buy secondhand, all in the name of reducing our negative impact on the planet. So why not make some changes in the bedroom too?
Not all lubes are created equal
Not only do adult products contribute to the depth of our footprint on the planet they also contain chemicals that are potentially harmful to it and us. For example; a huge percentage of the lubes on the market are full of concerning ingredients such as parabens, which can make their way into sewage systems and disrupt wildlife, carbomers and other synthetics (1). Not only are these chemically-derived ingredients harmful to the planet, they are also a concern for the human body, and can smother skin, cause irritation and even tissue damage (2).
Don’t worry, there’s a solution!
The good news is, there’s no need to renounce sex to save the planet just yet! There are adult products with an ecological conscience out there and it’s possible to get toys, condoms and lubes that will help meet your ethical desires while helping meet your - ‘ahem’ - other desires… When it comes to lube we’ve got it covered for you. YES lubes help make love and save the planet at the same time. Epic multitasking. They are, without a doubt, a cleaner alternative to other brands on the market. The tubes and applicators are all recyclable and the cardboard packaging is FSC recyclable too. What’s inside them does good as well because all the products in the range are plant-based, Soil Association certified organic and made without parabens, skin irritants, hormones or other concerning chemicals. We feel so strongly about this issue that we’ve dedicated a whole two months to trying to spread the message that ethical and mindful consumption extends to all areas of life and that there are alternatives that’ll help you feel good, when you’re feeling GOOD!
